Foundation Reviews | My Thoughts
I am a foundation junkie. From compact powder, mineral powder to liquids - it is the canvas of your face and should be the focal point of any makeup look. Since I have tried a lot of foundations, I thought I would share my opinions. Click on each photo for an in depth review.
Pros: Medium Coverage, Satin Finish, Blurs Pores/Redness, Mousse Consistency, Lightweight Cons: Not Longwearing, Must set with powder, Not Buildable Overall: This product does exactly what it claims; it blurs imperfections. Although this didn't last 6+ hours on my face, I think it's perfect for when you want your face to look flawless, but you have no intentions on wearing it all day. I am really impressed with the formula of this foundation, and how it sets beautifully on the skin.
Pros: Medium-Full buildable Coverage, Matte Finish Cons: Separates, Emphasizes pores/lines, Comes out thick, Feels heavy Overall: Wasn't worth the hype for me, I think there's better foundations if you're looking for a full coverage-matte foundation. It felt gross on my face and looked worse after 4-6 hours. Its called 24hour wear... EEK!
Pros: Weightless, Satin Finish, Medium Coverage, Looks Flawless, Oil-free Cons: Although it's 2.5oz. since it's an aerosol can you almost need double the product than if you used a liquid. Overall: I really liked the "porcelain flawless" look this gave; however, I had to use a lot of product. Maybe only use for special occasions? Instead of actually spraying this on your face, I sprayed it on a metal palette and used a brush to buff it on my face. Similar to Diorskin Airflash Spray.
Pros: Great for oily/combo skin, Full coverage, Humidity proof, Longwearing, Flawless finish without looking cakey Cons: Glass bottle with no pump, Might be heavy for some, No SPF, Most Sephora's don't carry this (in-store) Overall: I have gone through 1 bottle of this AMAZING foundation. This has everything I want because it covers everything without settling into any fine lines/pores/wrinkles. Mix a little moisturizer with it if you want to sheer it out a bit.
Pros: Matte finish, Medium-Full coverage, Oil free Cons: Packaging is a tube with a twist off cap so you have no control over how much product comes out or is wasted, clings to dry patches, CAKE FACE! Overall: I always apply a small amount of foundation first (1/2 a drop), then go back and apply a tad more where I need extra coverage. So if this looked cakey then imagine using 1-2 drops/pumps especially if you had redness/acne/scarring to cover up. No-go for me so I gladly returned it!
Pros: Medium buildable coverage, "sheer glow" meaning luminous glow from within look Cons: Glass bottle without a pump, not sheer as it claims to be, most of the shades are yellow tone, Although it says it's a satin finish - it's more matte, clings to dry patches Overall: I did not find this foundation to be worth the hype. Within 2 hours my face looked greasy and dirty; I bought two different shades and the color was just off for my neutral skin tone, so I returned it.
Pros: Natural Finish, Lightweight, Liquidy/Thin Consistency, Medium Coverage, Dries Fast, Doesn't Feel or Look Cakey, Does not Separate, Drugstore Cons: Takes Along Time to Blend, Kind of Streaky, DO NOT Use Your Hands Overall: 8/10; This is the ideal foundation for someone who doesn't like wearing makeup, yet needs coverage. Perfect for the "less is more" natural-every day-non makeup, makeup look.
Pros: Full Coverage, Longwearing, Matte Finish, Great for all Skin Types, Drugstore Cons: Thick, Separates Overall: 10/10; When I want a full face of makeup, I reach for this or my Ex1 foundation. If you don't like the thickness, add some moisturizer. It applies beautifully with a beauty blender/wanna-be sponge. Definitely my holy grail drugstore foundation.
Pros: Medium Coverage, Buildable, For Mature Skin, Ideal for Dry Skin Cons: Breaks Up, Not Longwearing, Not for Combo-Oily Skin Overall: 4/10; This is a cream compact, so I had to use my fingers to apply it on my face then go back in with a brush. After 2 hours I looked greasy as hell. (even with primer + finishing powder)
Pros: Medium Coverage, Dewy Finish, Wide Range of Shades, Drugstore, Similar to YSL Touche Eclat Cons: Must set with Powder, For Oily Skin it Might Look Greasy instead of Dewy, Looks Beautiful the First Few Hours, Not Longwearing Overall: 7/10; I think this looks better on my skin than the regular L'Oreal True Match. I like that my skin looks radiant not greasy. Even if you're oily, but don't like a matte finish - this is for you!
Pros: Full Coverage, Matte Finish, A little goes along way, Longwearing, Drugstore Cons: Thick, Feels like makeup, Can get cakey if applied too much Overall: 10/10; To me, this product is very versatile - if you don't like the thick/full coverage feeling then add a moisturizer and it becomes a BB cream. If you want that porcelain look, this is for you. This holds up (even in humid weather) and last forever.
Pros: Natural Finish, Lightweight, Liquidy/Thin Consistency, Ideal for Mature Skin, Perfect Skin Tone Match, Sheer-Medium Coverage, Buildable Cons: Streaky, Dries Quickly, Pricey ($36 USA) Overall: 7/10; My mother, age 60, with mature skin loves this. I am 26 and love it for more natural days; however, I still need to use concealer to cover my redness.
TESTIMONIALS:
These are my opnions. I was not paid or influenced in any way to speak highly of a certain foundation and/or brand. Since I have a wide variety of foundations, I have some knowledge of what works and what doesn't. My skin type is combination to oily. I do not have acne prone skin; however, I do have some"texture" acne scarring from my teenage years.
